Securities Analyst

The Alberta Securities Commission is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering Alberta securities laws. Our mandate is to foster a fair and efficient capital market and to protect investors. We work with securities regulators from across Canada with a view to ensuring harmonized application of securities laws.

The Corporate Finance division regulates businesses, both corporate issuers and investment funds, raising money whether publicly or privately. This involves reviewing disclosure documents with a view to ensuring full and balanced disclosure. Staff are involved in the development of law and policy and make recommendations respecting discretionary exemptions from securities law. Specialized teams focus on matters such as environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure; oil and gas reserves/resource disclosure; mergers & acquisitions, oversight of the TSX Venture Exchange, systemic risk and market intelligence; and ways to improve capital formation in Alberta through regulatory and technological innovation.

Are you an experienced Chartered Professional Accountant with audit/financial reporting experience for public entities, who is interested in making a difference? This position is responsible for analyzing a variety of reporting issuers’ continuous disclosure documents (i.e. financial statements, AIF, MD&As), prospectuses, pre-filing and exemption applications to identify specific public interest concerns and compliance with securities legislation.  It will give you the opportunity to apply professional judgement in assessing disclosure by companies from a broad range of industries with a view to helping ensure investors have access to the material information needed to make an informed investing decision and that companies understand their obligations. It will also offer you the chance to develop expertise in the capital markets and with securities law.

Your career with more than 5 years experience in assurance work/financial reporting has given you the proven ability to think critically, evaluate alternative positions and make decisions.  You have a strong technical understanding of IFRS and exposure to evolving capital markets.  Having a working knowledge of US GAAP would also be an asset.

This multi-faceted role offers the opportunity to be part of a collegial and supportive team working with a diverse group of professionals from various backgrounds to provide effective responses to a wide range of financial and capital market issues while working in an environment that promotes a well-balanced lifestyle.
