Our Team:

The financial services department provides services to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and reporting systems and to safeguard the assets of the City for the citizens of Airdrie, our internal customers and regulatory bodies.

The Opportunity:

The City of Airdrie is seeking an Accountant to join our Accounting Services team. The accountant position is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, financial analysis, internal controls, general ledger maintenance and subsidiary operations. This position is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations which includes ensuring the accuracy and integrity of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Responsibilities include:

Budget for Subsidiaries:
• Work with subsidiaries to prepare short and long-term revenue and expense projections for operating and capital budgets
• Analyze quarterly budget variances and projections and report on results
• Perform revenue and expense detail analysis

Monthly/Quarterly:
• Prepare the accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts and investigate any discrepancies
• Prepare and analyze financial reports on a monthly basis, including the statement of financial position and the statement of operations and communicate results to subsidiary Manager
• Maintain the general ledger and prepare adjusting and correcting journal entries

Annual/Year End:
• Prepare year-end financial statements with notes and related working papers (includes allocation and roll up of accounts)
• Prepare year-end entries (accruals, carry forwards, etc.)
• Prepare consolidation entries and adjustments

You Bring:

• Certified Professional Accountant (CPA)
• 3 to 5 years of experience in financial accounting, with preference given to individuals with municipal and not-for-profit experience
• Advanced Excel skills including conditional formatting, pivot tables, advanced formulas and linking
• Strong working knowledge of financial accounting systems
• Previous work experience with Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics or other automated accounting systems considered an asset
• Experience with SharePoint considered an asset
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy while working on numerous routine and ad hoc accounting functions
• Strong customer service and relationship building skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced, deadline driven role, while adapting to a constantly changing and challenging work environment
• Supportive attitude towards process improvement and technological advancement
• Ability to perform effectively both independently and in a team oriented environment
• Quick learner and self-starter with a practical and flexible approach to work
• Ability to research topics effectively

Additional Information:
