Executive Director, Financial Operations & Reporting

Island Health provides health care and support services to more than 860,000 people on Vancouver Island, the islands in the Salish Sea and the Johnstone Strait, and mainland communities north of Powell River. With a budget of $3.5 billion and more than 30,000 staff and over 2,900 physician partners, 1,000 volunteers, and the dedicated support of foundations and auxiliaries, Island Health delivers a broad range of health services, including: public health services, primary health care, home and community care, mental health and addictions services, acute care in hospitals, and much more across a huge, geographically diverse region.

Reporting to the Vice President, Support Services and & Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Director, Financial Operations & Reporting provides strategic direction, organizational leadership, expertise, and support in the delivery of a wide range of financial activities. This position is responsible for leading oversight and stewardship functions ensuring proper internal controls are in place and departmental area policies and procedures comply with public sector accounting standards, legal requirements, and Island Health standards. They are also the main interface with the external auditor and responsible for the organization's comptrollership function. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the new ED will be a champion for Island Health’s journey of continuous improvement across this well-established health authority. The outgoing ED developed positive working relationships and leadership in the department and across business groups, paving the way for an energetic leader to step in and continue the strong performance of this team and department.

The successful candidate will have a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is a definite requirement, and ten years' senior financial administration experience within a large complex multi-site organization in a position with increasing leadership responsibility. They will also have experience with project management, strategic planning budgeting, leadership development, systems design and development, change management, organizational development and building community under adverse conditions. This individual will be a proven collaborator, able to work alongside their fellow Executive Directors and set an atmosphere and culture of collaboration, challenging each other to continue to improve and explore new ideas. This person will contribute to creating a positive work environment where staff can thrive off the intelligence and creativity of others. Strong leadership qualities will be at the forefront of the ideal candidate’s skillset.
