Intermediate Accountant

AltaSteel is seeking a dedicated professional to join the Finance department as an Accountant. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will provide finance support to the AltaSteel business. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring customers are billed on time and accurately, receiving of payments for goods and services, improving the performance of the business by providing timely commercial analysis as part of the monthly reporting process, business planning and other business analysis, and participation in month end financial close functions. This position will also assist in the completion of the budgeting and forecasting process.

Responsibilities:

Accounting:

  • Routine journal entries, reconciliations, continuity schedules and ledger analysis
  • Completion of month end processing of results and associated schedules and validation of business financials
  • Communication of results to key customers
  • Gain an understanding of shutdowns, projects, manufacturing changes etc. and how they relate to financial performance
  • Build relationships with operations to help them understand their costs and key business drivers
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing information required for forecasting and budgeting
  • Monitor, audit, and report any DOA infringements
  • Assist with interim and year-end audit requests
  • Review the accuracy of journal entries

Accounts Receivable:

  • Processing customer invoices with high accuracy
  • Complete credit checks and credit applications
  • Manage and perform collections; inquire status of payment and reach out to past due customers
  • Post customer payments in ERP system
  • Daily reconciliation of bank transactions and ERP system
  • Prepare and review credit hold report

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or another business-related field
  • In pursuit of or recently completed CPA designation
  • A minimum 3-5 years of experience in a financial accounting and analysis position
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, experience using ERP systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Self-motivated, action oriented and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently on routine tasks.

  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges
  • Previous audit and manufacturing accounting experience considered an asset
