What positions are available?

We are looking to fill the following CPA student positions:

  • 2 in our Dawson Creek BC office
  • 1 in our Fort St. John BC office
  • 1 in our Grande Prairie AB office

 

Start dates are flexible with 1 of the positions being open for an immediate start, 2 for a January 2023 start, and 1 for a May 2023 start. Start dates are not location specific, due to our cloud based operating environment.

 

What is included in the Compensation Package?

We offer a competitive salary that gets reviewed on a semi-annual basis for experiential increases. In addition, we include knowledge-based salary increases as you move through the CPA PEP modules.

 

Benefits include flexible work opportunities, 37.5 hour work weeks, health and mental wellness allowance, banked overtime, extended medical and dental, life and disability insurance, firm matching RRSP, paid sick and personal days, paid professional dues, coverage of CPA PEP dues, 4 day work weeks in the summer, and a computer buy back program. We also have an internal support and mentoring program for our CPA Students.

 

What are the pre-requisites to apply?

Applicants must have completed their university degree and are prepared/eligible to enroll in the Chartered Professional Accountant Professional Education Program (CPA PEP), with the goal of attaining their CPA designation. Prospective applicants must be willing to relocate to their preferred office location.

 

Additional consideration will be given to those students with public practice experience (i.e Co-op).

 

What duties does a CPA Student perform?

Our student duties include the full spectrum of exposure that a Public Practice can offer. You will be involved in the preparation of Compilation and Review engagements, personal tax preparation, corporate tax preparation, preparation of audit file sections (ASPE, ASNPO, and PSAB), drafting memo’s to clients re: a variety of tax treatments, and some book keeping. As students grow in their experience and knowledge they will find that they are challenged daily.

Our firm is a 5 partner practice with 30 staff, that helps service clients that are in the municipal, not for profit, retail, natural gas, oil, hydroelectricity, forestry, agriculture, mining, tourism and manufacturing industries. This diverse client base helps to create a strong, and diverse economy in the region.

 

With these accounting, advisory, audit and taxation clients, we will be able to provide you with the practical experience required to compliment your education, and prepare you for a successful career as a Chartered Professional Accountant. Our students are exposed to a large variety of files and work experiences, enabling them to gain competency in all facets of Public Practice including accounting, auditing (municipal, not-for-profit and corporate), taxation, consulting, and estate planning/business transition. The variety of file exposure and mentorship allows students to be continually challenged, leading to ongoing professional growth.

Background about our locations

Dawson Creek and Fort St. John are located in Northeastern BC and Grande Prairie is located in Northwest Alberta. In addition to great local shopping, our cities boast a number of big city amenities not found in other communities our size. You are able to get to anywhere in all three locations with a 10 minute drive, leading to minimal commute time! The Cities proximity to the mountains, as well as the prairies, allow our staff to enjoy the great outdoors through a variety of activities such as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, disc golf, hiking, swimming, boating, and many others. You can also find our staff spending time at the EnCana Events Centre, where a variety of acts such as Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Dierks Bentley have performed.
