What you will do

As a key member of the Corporate Services branch leadership team and reporting to the Senior Financial Officer, you will lead a team of financial management professionals in delivering multidisciplinary accounting and financial services within the context of a nonpartisan, public service environment. This includes coaching the team and providing expertise in evaluating, interpreting and advising clients, including elected officials, on public service financial policies and legislation. To achieve the LAO’s strategic goals, you will drive the development and implementation of the Financial Management unit’s operational plan, evaluating and refining plans as priorities adjust.

As a lead on the Legislative Assembly Office’s (LAO’s) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system project you will work with both the contracted service provider and internal stakeholders to advise on financial requirements, instill best practices and recommend innovative and practical approaches to the ERP integration that align with organizational goals and client expectations. In managing the implementation of the ERP, you will lead the Financial Management team and clients through the change management process, including developing policies, practices and internal controls.   

Who you are

You are an expert in the fields of accounting and finance with a proven record in operational leadership. You bring practical experience in coaching, mentoring and managing performance within teams, including leading towards unit and organizational goals. You have strength in advising clients on escalated, complex and sensitive financial situations, all the time ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service, diplomacy and nonpartisanship. You have successfully led through considerable organizational change initiatives, which have included championing change throughout the organization and leading the development of business processes that incorporate best practices, organizational policies and system requirements.

What you bring

Your education background includes related postsecondary education in business administration, finance or accounting in addition to possession of a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA  or CGA). A minimum of seven years post designation experience in financial reporting or financial operations, with a minimum of three years in a formal supervisory or management position in finance or accounting operations, is required. Public-sector accounting experience is preferred. Experience with an ERP system implementation is an asset.
