PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Controller leads and directs Formations accounting functions. The Controller will establish and maintain the financial and business systems, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards, sales tax requirements and corporate tax requirements. The Controller will manage the processes and procedures that support the capture and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Fundamental job duties): 

  • Lead and direct all financial reporting activities such as month-end close, payables, credit & collections, inventory adjustments and payroll.
  • Analyze deliverables of finance team members and provide mentorship and coaching.
  • Ensure all financial reporting processes, procedures, and controls are documented and reviewed regularly to ensure they are efficient, effective and provide timely and accurate financial information.
  • Manage external financial and non-financial audits.
  • Perform variance analysis on monthly financial statements to budget and investigate variances to proactively address any business and financial reporting process issues.
  • Support regional and functional managers during annual budgets.
  • Consult with regional and functional managers to determine business financial and non-financial reporting needs as well as identified operation efficiencies.
  • Utilize financial reporting and business process knowledge to collaborate with regional and functional managers to add value to operational processes and procedures.
  • Support the executive team with various projects, system improvements, financial reports, analysis, and presentations as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  (In order of importance)

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree is required. Business administration or commerce degree is preferred.
  • Has acquired a minimum of 3 years of proven leadership experience.
  • Must be a tech savvy individual and have a desire to learn new programs and systems.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel, OneDrive, and SharePoint) required.
  • Generate innovative ideas and challenge the status quo.
  • Driven to continuously improve and add value to the organization.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are required.
  • Must have excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with various leaders.
  • In depth knowledge and experience with various ERP systems considered an asset.
