Manager, Financial Operations (1 Year Term)

The Manager, Financial Operations oversees the inputting of appropriate data to the WSCC Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems utilizing a complex integration process between the Worker’ Safety and Compensation Commission Great Plains Accounting System (GP), the in-house claims management and revenue system called Compensation, Assessment and Accident Prevention System (CAAPS) and the WSCC e-connect web-portal for Claimants and Employers. The position is responsible to ensure the appropriate payments to vendors and receipts from employers with respect to accounts payable, to authorized vendors and accounts receivable from Northwest Territories and Nunavut employers and other clients.

The Manager, Financial Operations reports to the Chief Financial Officer, and has a dual reporting structure that is accountable to the Corporate Comptroller for the day to day operations and to the Chief Financial Officer in relation to staffing and is located in Yellowknife, NT.  The incumbent manages the transactional processing activities (accounts payable, accounts receivable, chart of account reconciliations, month end close and general journal entries, entered into the WSCC’s ERP System, within their designated authorized limits under the appropriate legislation, regulations, agreements, policies, departmental business procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The role provides professional advice, assistance, training and interpretation of the Workers’ Compensation Act, its Regulations, WSCC policies, the Financial Administration Act, IFRS and Generally Accepted Accounting Policies (GAAP) applicable to the WSCC.

The Manager, Financial Reporting supervises five (5) staff: three (3) Senior Accounting Clerks, one (1) Finance Officer and one (1) Accounting Clerk, Revenue.

Typically, the qualifications for the role would be attained by a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) as well as 3 years directly related financial management experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience in a computerized financial environment.

Salary ranges from $58.88 to $70.34 hourly (approx. $114,816 to $137,163 yearly), plus a Northern Allowance of $3,700 yearly.
