As a Staff Accountant, you will:
- Prepare and review Compilations and Review Engagement financial statements
- Prepare and review working paper files for income tax returns for corporate, personal, and trust returns
- Occasional bookkeeping duties, including preparation or review of investment account reconciliations
- Maintain client files to ensure accurate and timely completion of returns and schedules
- Communicate directly with the CRA on client matters
- Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assist in the preparation and execution of month-end end, quarter-end, and year-end end closing
- Maintain fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation for our clients
- Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and adherence to internal controls under corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls
- Attend any training that is required and approved by
- Interact directly with clients and partners
- Providing support to team members in related tasks
- Prepare financial statements and variance analysis related to separate cost centers
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts plus variance analysis of P&L accounts
- Prepare and file GST returns
- Initiate and implement process improvements
- Specific projects and other related duties as required
- Handle confidential information and all matters in a discrete and professional manner
What you bring to the role
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2-5 years of experience in a similar role
- Experience with QuickBooks, Xero, or other online bookkeeping programs will be considered an asset
- High level of skill with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Previous use of Tax Prep and CaseView programs would be beneficial
- Strong accounting foundation, including knowledge of relevant accounting frameworks and file documentation best practices
- Experience with reviewing and developing internal control procedures
- Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently as part of a team
- Ability to think independently, resolve problems, and propose solutions
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize responsibilities and meet set deadlines but be flexible to adjust to changing priorities.
- Detail-orientated, able to effectively manage multiple projects
- A quick learner with drive and ambition (while appreciating work-life balance)
