DEH TAI LP BOARD OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Requesting applicants for one (1) Director position

FNFN member or non-member

(two-year term)

 

We are seeking a committed board member to serve on our growing organization's governing body. The board members’ responsibilities include advising on strategic plans, participating in evaluations, and monitoring its financial affairs. You should also prepare for board meetings (virtual via Zoom or in person), attend them regularly, and actively participate in them.  There may be some travel involved and has an honorarium associated with the position

The directors are responsible for the effective management of the Deh Tai LP economic development Board which oversees the business entities owned by the Fort Nelson First Nation.  The business interests include the Clarke Lake Geothermal Project (Tu Deh-Kah), wood pellet project, rail line to Fort St. John, announced hydrogen project, commercial greenhouse development, Eh Cho Dene construction company, Fort Nelson Hotel, Liard Hot Springs Lodge, Dene Gravel Pits, Nelson River Outfitters as well as initiatives under development.  The directors are required to act in the best interest of the FNFN and will have fiduciary responsibilities to both the shareholders and the limited partners.  Existing businesses and projects total in excess of $1.6 billion in value with a renewable clean energy focus.

To be successful as a board member you should have significant professional leadership experience and strong diplomatic skills. An outstanding board member will be passionately committed to the organization's mission.

Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Approving audit reports, budgets, and business decisions
  • Knowing the organization's mission, programs, policies, and needs
  • Preparing for meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation
  • Regularly attending board meetings and participating actively and conscientiously
  • Keeping up with issues and trends that affect the organization
  • Contributing to the development of policies and strategic plans
  • Understanding the organization's financial affairs and ensuring fiduciary responsibilities are met
  • Ensuring the organization complies with legal requirements
  • Maintaining confidentiality on all internal organizational affairs

 

Board Member Requirements:

  • Financial management and strategic planning experience
  • CPA or equivalent and strong financial experience
  • Proven track record in an executive leadership role
  • Previous board experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the organization and the relevant industries
  • Sufficient time availability for board duties
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills
  • Clean energy projects and initiatives would be valuable but not required
