Financial Controller

Buffalo Inspection Services is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join our fast-growing team.  Based in Edmonton, Alberta, this Controller role will be a full-time position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable in a very dynamic environment with significant engagement with the executive management team. We need someone who can manage the financial reporting process, verify and hold the operations team accountable to ensure targeted results are being met and that the accounting and related financial controls are operating effectively.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Oversee a team of 4 while guiding and managing the growth, vision and performance of the accounting department.
  • Manage accounting, all operations - (billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition)
  • Create monthly and annual year-end financial statements/reporting
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting
  • Prepare and monitor budgeting and forecasting of company results
  • Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process including the development and monitoring of business performance metrics
  • Ensure appropriate local, provincial, and federal government reporting and tax requirements are within compliance
  • Create and modify department policies and processes to ensure compliance and performance within the team
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Implement and advise on internal audits, controls and regular checks/balances across all departments as required

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA Designation
  • 5+ years related experience at the Controller position
  • Strong leadership, delegation, investigative and process improvement skills
  • Ability to create and grow a dynamic team
  • Proactive and a self-starter who can make decisions
  • Microsoft NAV experience is preferred
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information, both verbally and written
