Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Financial Analysis team.

The Financial Analysis group provides plant and portfolio financial forecasting and analytics, and acts as the first-line business partners for all of our assets and trading desks.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Analysis, the Manager, Financial Analysis will partner with internal stakeholders to provide insights into financial and operational trends of the assigned portfolio, which may include several power plants and/or commodity trading desks. This is an exciting financial role involving a combination of forward-looking forecasting, analysis of actual results, as well as an array of ad-hoc analyses, all of which drive results for the business.

 

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of the assigned portfolio and providing beneficial advice and commentary as the financial expert for the portfolio.

  • Leading the development of the long-term plan, annual budget and quarterly forecast processes for the assigned facilities, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

  • Analyzing and reporting on monthly, quarterly, and annual variances with a focus on the business and key drivers/trends.

  • Delivering responses to analytical requests and/or data to the supported business partners in commercial, operations, and other areas of the company.

  • Maintaining strong collaborative relationships with various internal stakeholders to understand, interpret, and develop business analysis that will improve overall financial results.

  • Managing the process, timelines, expectations, and flow of information between the Financial Analysis team, the business, and other finance groups.

  • Ensuring procedures are well-developed and established internal controls are operating effectively, and that all analysis reflects all key trends, assumptions and drivers.

  • Recommending and implementing improvements to processes, reporting, etc. to drive efficiencies.

  • Coaching and sometimes managing the Financial Analyst(s).

 

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related.

  • Professional Accounting Designation.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to work effectively with non-financial individuals.

  • Strong time management.

  • Ability to foster positive internal and external stakeholder relationships.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle, and/or Hyperion is considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of the power generation business is an asset.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office or hybrid work-from-home arrangements.

  • Some evening and weekend work is required in this position but identified most often in advance.

 

Additional Details

Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
