Opportunity Overview 

The accountant position at Alberta Enterprise will be key to the day-to-day financial success of the organization. This role will work in collaboration with the Senior Accountant and is responsible for the general operational accounting duties of the company including preparation and processing of journal entries, payments, payroll and preparation of financial documents. The accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The ideal candidate for this role will exhibit excellent communication, time management, attention to details and organizational abilities, and will have a strong drive to achieve results. Effective and timely work in this position will play a key role in the support of both internal and external stakeholders.  

Responsibilities 

  • General day-to-day operational accounting duties including journal entries, accounts receivable, payroll, expense payments and general ledger and reconciliation 

  • Aid in the preparation of financial reporting and preparation of key financial statements 

  • Perform daily bank duties and bank reconciliation 

  • Daily and monthly cash management 

  • Prepare period-ending adjustments when needed 

  • Aid and provide support to any internal or external audit activities as needed 

  • Maintain and be able to provide financial data to key stakeholders when necessary 

  • Process semi-monthly payroll, reconciliation of salary reports to GL accounts and payroll year-end procedures 

  • Preparation of expense disclosures 

  • Work in a team environment as well as individually 

  • Aid in the compliance with fund-to-fund reporting requirements, equity pick-ups, and unrealized gains and losses   

  • Provide back-up support to Senior Accountant 

  • Support team members with ad-hoc duties as required

Requirements 

  • 2+ years of accounting or corporate finance experience 

  • Excellent technical knowledge of operational accounting  

  • Familiarity with fund accounting 

  • Strong technical skills in Excel, accounting databases, and other applicable applications 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication 

  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment 

  • Familiarity with differing accounting standards (i.e. PSAB, IFRS, GAAP, ASPE) 

Education and Designation 

  • University Business degree - related field such as Finance and Accounting considered an asset 

  • Pursuit of or completion of professional accounting designation recognized in Canada (CPA or legacy designations) is preferred
