Cost Accountant

Position Summary:

The Accountant, Cost will support the operations for the company’s part’s manufacturing division. The primary responsibility of the Accountant, Cost will be to determine the actual cost of manufacturing, reducing company expenses, analyzing costs, and assist in the budget / forecast process. This position will capture the company’s entire cost of production by measuring all costs connected with the manufacturing process. General accounting activities will include preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining schedules, completing, and reviewing account reconciliations and analysis.

We are currently hiring 2 Cost Accountants. One will be located in Calgary, AB and the other in Sidney, BC.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the month-end close related to cost accounting and reporting
  • Coordination, preparation, maintenance, and analysis of the General Ledger
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statement and analysis
  • Review the standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  • Analyze purchase price variances report
  • Implement standard cost by gaining insight and feedback from supply chain management
  • Maintain cost accounting system and cost ledger
  • Prepare inventory and production related journal entries, schedules, and analysis
  • Prepare cost models for new parts and maintenance of existing product costing
  • Assist in the development and analysis of operational budgets / forecasts
  • Collect, validate, and disseminate data for financial transparency and process improvement
  • Assist in physical inventories and monitoring cycle count programs
  • Ad-hoc reporting and financial modelling
  • Develop working paper audit files, assist in collecting data / information for external auditors

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business
  • Must possess a professional accounting designation or near completion
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, cost accounting or analyst
  • Excellent computer skills including an advanced level of proficiency in MS Excel
  • Previous experience working with Power BI, ERP systems such as Visual and/or IFS
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, manage several project deadlines concurrently
  • Proven team player, high level of cooperation and mutual respect
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
