Accountant

Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) invites applications from accomplished and qualified professionals for the position of full-time Accountant at Division Office in Innisfail.

  

The Accountant is a key member of our Financial Services team and is responsible for significant contributions to the financial, corporate and business affairs of the division. The successful candidate will be able to provide detailed evidence of:

  • Three or more years’ successful accounting experience within a similar organization or corporation;

  • Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or a related diploma, degree, or experience in finance, accounting, business or related field;

  • Advanced technological/analytical skills with great attention to detail;

  • Experience with treating people with respect, kindness, empathy, fairness, and compassion;

  • Working collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of teams, groups, and external agencies;

  • The ability to assess complex and sensitive situations to determine reasonable solutions and decisions;

  • Exceptional communication skills that regularly provide opportunities for input from others;

 

Working directly with the Treasurer, the Accountant will:

  • Play a key role in the development and monitoring of the Division budget;

  • Prepare budgets, financial reports, returns, records, recommendations, policies, and procedures as required by provincial and federal legislation as well as the Board of Education;   

  • Provide support, advice, recommendations, and guidance to the others on matters affecting financial services; 

  • Develop, implement, and supervise effective procedures for financial operations of the school system including general ledger, cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, benefits, operating and capital budgets, education grant claims, school generated funds, and resource allocation;

  • Provide accounting and budget support for leaders and admin support staff in schools and departments;

  • Provide administration of the accounting and investment of reserve and trust account funds; 

  • Propose policies and implement authorized policies and procedures that will result in effective financial planning, management and control of Financial Services;

  • Ensure the currency and adequacy of insurance coverage;

  • Fulfills other duties, consistent with the role of Accountant, as assigned by the Treasurer.
