The Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW), with a population of 12,000, encompasses an area of 20,720 square kilometers which includes the north end of Vancouver Island, a portion of the mainland and numerous islands in Queen Charlotte Strait. This area includes four municipalities, several First Nations’ communities and four electoral areas with eight unincorporated settlements. The diverse communities within the Regional District provide a broad range of housing options in a relaxed atmosphere that would have great appeal for those interested in an active outdoor lifestyle (see https://myvancouverislandnorth.ca ).

As part of a dynamic management team reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing the financial affairs of the Regional District and the Mount Waddington Regional Hospital District. In their role as the chief financial officer, the Treasurer will lead a small, dedicated team providing functions including financial planning and analysis, risk management, managing budgetary and other internal controls, with regular reporting, through the CAO, to the Regional District Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will have a recognized accounting designation supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of senior local government accounting/financial and management experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of the regional district system within the context of the Community Charter and Local Government Act is considered an asset, along with proficiency in using financial software (including Central Square, I-City, Vadim), excellent communication, interpersonal and human resource skills.

The Treasurer is assigned the responsibilities of Financial Administration, pursuant to section 237 of the Local Government Act.

The RDMW may consider a candidate that is enrolled in the CPA professional education program Capstone level and interested in pursuing an opportunity with local government.
