Project Accountant

Position Summary

Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant will be responsible for the financial well-being and accounting of a large Infrastructure construction project, Government funding, and Industry Service Agreements. The successful candidate will be part of an accounting team that is tasked with budgeting and tracking expenses and ensuring through policies and procedures that these projects meet fiscal policies, regulations, and accounting principles. You will be performing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and variance analysis.  You will be working closely with the Accounting and Operations teams, as well as Subcontractors and Vendors, so effective communication is key. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing contracts, meeting financial deadlines, supporting operations, and responding to multiple requests in a timely fashion.  This is a hands-on position which will require you to create purchase orders while also strategically contributing to the success of the organization. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the Controller or other operation managers as required

  • Developing and reviewing project budgets

  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and internal controls

  • Providing project managers and clients with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts

  • Issuing invoices and purchase orders, paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills

  • Ensuring a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner

  • Updating contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments

  • Tracking inventory and capital asset management

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience with at least 2 years of experience in Project Accounting
  • Experience with Government Grant management and reporting

  • Solid computer skills in Google, Quickbooks, and Streak

  • Post-secondary education in accounting

  • Effective communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Independent self-starter that requires little supervision but is also a team player
