We are currently seeking a collaborative, curious and experienced individual to join our amazing Internal Audit team!

The Senior Audit Advisor is accountable for multiple complex internal audit engagements across all areas of the organization.  This includes our generation facilities, vendor management audits, the Canadian Sarbanes Oxley (CSOX) program, and other projects on the Audit Committee Approved Audit Plan. Working effectively with all levels of Management, the Senior Audit Advisor will present findings, ensuring the understanding of facts, the required actions, timeliness, accountability, and the ratings in all engagements.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Conducting engagement level risk assessment incorporating Senior and Executive Management input, research, Enterprise Risk Management assessments and business plan.

  • Ensuring engagement objectives and risk profiles align with the internal audit risk-based plan.

  • Ensuring the scope of work will meet the engagement objectives and risk assessment.

  • Developing audit programs for manager approval.

  • Adapting the risk assessment and audit program for changes or added information.

  • Developing project timelines to ensure alignment with internal audit annual plan and handling audit project to ensure deadlines and objectives and keeping the business aware of the deadlines.

  • Completing all areas of the audit program or managing others including customers to complete.

  • Assessing audit evidence to resolve if it meets audit objectives and accurately reflects testing performed.

  • Presenting audit results to all stakeholders in a professional and organized manner.

  • Identifying resources needed to address limitations for the engagement.

  • Providing recommended courses of action to Senior and Executive Management for the function, department or organization that solves an identified problem as part of the audit engagement.

  • Managing engagement to budget including co-source audit arrangements.

  • Reviewing management responses and following up with management to ensure remediation plans are implemented.

  • Providing business insights to the audit engagement planning.

  • Evaluating the evidence to identify root causes by effectively using root cause analysis techniques.

  • Collaborating with client to determine workable solutions to mitigate or eliminate issues noted during engagements.

  • Generating innovative solutions/ audit recommendations for all areas of Capital Power.

  • Discussing audit findings and their impacts professionally and confidently with various levels of the organization.

  • Assessing and maintaining a current understanding of the relevance of regulatory/legal requirements, economic factors, and industry knowledge on audit engagements.

  • Achieving desired results by nurturing and building effective partnerships.

  • Managing conflict by negotiating and resolving disagreements by identifying and overseeing the needs and expectations of stakeholders.

  • Collaborating with senior and executive management on more complex audit issues to develop recommendations.

  • Leading through influence, personal conviction, and sensitivity.

What you will bring to the role    

Education:

  • Post-Secondary Degree.

  • Education equivalency may be considered.

  • Professional Accounting Designation or a recognized Internal Audit designation such as the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

  • IT auditor certification is an asset.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive audit experience.

  • Working knowledge of the generation industry an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to apply internal auditing (Institute of Internal Auditors) and accounting standards, principles, and practices.

  • Knowledge of management principles and preferred business practices.

  • Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices.

  • Knowledge of contemporary risk management and control techniques and control frameworks.

  • Knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

  • Familiarity with the common indicators of fraud.

  • Skill in conducting quality control reviews of audit work products.

  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions.

  • Skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to negotiate issues and resolving problems.

  • Computer skills that include word processing, spreadsheets, systems documentation, audit packages, and other business software to prepare work papers, reports, memos, summaries, and analyses.

  • Effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skills in presenting findings and recommendations for improvement.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.

  • Travel may be required to other Capital Power locations and sites, including all generation facilities in Canada, United States, or elsewhere.

Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
