Department Information

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Job Information

As the Manager of Financial Reporting, you would play a critical role in ensuring the validity and integrity of the GNWT's financial statements. You would direct all aspects, from start to finish, of the GNWT consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and other financial reporting. This would entail providing expert professional advice, assistance, training and interpretation to departments, boards and agencies on issues relating to generally accepted accounting principles, the Financial Administration Act, Financial Administration Manual and the Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) Handbook. You would work closely with the Office of the Auditor General while they conduct the statutory audit of the public accounts.

You would also supervise five staff and chair the committee of the managers of financial reporting and budget of all GNWT departments and select agencies.

To be successful in this role you would have to be proficient in the preparation and interpretation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with PSAS. You would also have completed a business degree or similar, and have a CPA accounting designation. You would also have a minimum of ten years of progressive experience including: two (2) years supervisory experience and five (5) years in a similar environment either in public sector or public practice (audit stream) either of which must include preparation of consolidated financial statements

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $64.46 per hour to $77.00 per hour (approximately $125,697- $150,150 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.GNWT Inquiries
