Manager, Financial Reporting

Keyano College Financial Services is responsible for providing full financial services to the College and its consolidated entities. The Department provides strategic and operational financial advice and expertise to support short and long-term decision making and provides key financial performance information and reports on the College’s financial position and progress at achieving investment management agreement targets to college senior leadership and government.

Keyano College requires an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced individual to assume the role of Manager, Financial Reporting within the Financial Services department. Under the direction of the Director, Financial Services, this position is responsible for providing College-wide leadership and strategic functional direction, advice, and guidance on matters of policy, procedure, or precedent related to financial reporting, accounting standards and internal controls. 

As part of the Financial Services Client Services Leadership Team, the Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for:

  • providing budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial advice to assigned clients departments/divisions
  • preparing the College’s financial statements and acts as primary liaison with audit staff
  • providing direction and/or guidance over the review and preparation of journal entries
  • preparing of supporting working papers and schedules for the College’s financial statements
  • overseeing the College’s accounts receivable function, including corporate and student
  • providing financial advice and support to those responsible for managing the Keyano College Land Trust Corporation and prepares the financial statements and cash planning to ensure investment income is maximized while ensuring cash needs are met
  • acting as the primary liaison with the College’s Investment Manager 
  • overseeing the monitoring and testing of the College’s Internal Control Framework 
  • coordinating and planning the year-end financial statement preparation processes

 

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of experience in an advanced accounting position.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in post-secondary education, municipal or other government institution.
  • Proficiency in financial statement preparation.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Ability to plan, analyze, and manage projects and day-to-day operations; ability to set appropriate metrics and provide reports on these metrics.
  • Ability to establish and monitor effective, efficient, timely process for external and internal budgeting and reporting
  • Proficient with MS Office suite of software.
  • Proven success in team building and collaboration.
  • Excellent project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem solving, organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Proven acumen in business and financial management, with the ability to improve sectional effectiveness and efficiency through the management and utilization of human, financial and physical resources.
  • Ability to develop and foster an atmosphere of trust, support, creativity, and innovation.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including public speaking and presentations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in post-secondary education, municipal, provincial or federal government
  • Knowledge or experience with Great Plains, and Caseware is an asset.

 

Salary:

$87,000.00 per annum and includes an attractive health and benefits package.

This position qualifies for the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month. This allowance is reviewed annually and is subject to budget approval.
