We’re looking for a Financial & Business Analyst to join our Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) team to help us tell Calgary’s story as a great place to make a living and make a life.

This position is full-time for a 1 year term.

 

Job Summary:

The Financial & Business Analyst, OCIF is an experienced professional that will support transformative investments in Calgary. Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager OCIF, this role is responsible for contributing to the overall productivity and efficiency of the OCIF program by assisting with the pre-application process, the evaluation of business applications, supporting fund disbursements, and monitoring and compliance. Specific responsibilities include fielding questions to new inquiries and being an ambassador of the OCIF program, detailed analysis of opportunities that align with OCIF’s strategic direction, including financial analysis, evaluation of business applications, and program compliance of funding recipients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the OCIF pre-application process, including identification of prospective projects that meet the OCIF criteria.
  • Assist with research and analysis to support OCIF strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with the application process, including the evaluation of submissions and the development of recommendations for file progression based on application eligibility.
  • Assist with the review and due diligence of business proposals and contribute to the development of related board materials.
  • Assist with the development of terms and conditions for funding agreements, as needed.
  • Support monitoring and compliance processes.
  • Conduct monitoring and compliance reviews of funding agreements.
  • Execute completeness check and ensure project metrics are achieved and documented.
  • Recommend payments for successful milestone achievements.
  • Responsible for documentation of files and activities for each stage of the OCIF process in CRM.
  • Proactively update program materials and metrics, and support development of other board materials and reporting.
  • Work with team to deliver training on OCIF process, file reviews and key aspects of financial and ecosystem evaluations that help us determine competitiveness.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance or a related area. CPA, MBA, financial management, or project management designation an asset.

Experience:

Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area during which professional capability has been clearly demonstrated.

Experience in:

  • Executing programs, strategies, processes, and internal controls in an environment with a high level of scrutiny and accountability.
  • Reviewing and monitoring legal agreements.
  • Creating reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with government funding programs, venture capital programs and mergers and acquisitions, or economic development is an asset.

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proven program execution skills with the ability to multi-task and manage several sub-projects at once against tight timelines, demonstrating a strong skill base in organization, resourcefulness, schedules and budget management, risk mitigation, quality assurance, documentation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to learn quickly, think critically and function in a dynamic environment in a structured, timely and politically sensitive manner.
  • Analytical and methodical, while remaining open and flexible to input from various stakeholders. Demonstrates strong financial acumen. Familiarity with government grants or venture capital fund programs an asset.
  • Exceptional client relationship management.
  • Sound judgment and ability in handling matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the creation of professional PowerPoint presentations.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills; and ability to manage multiple projects with tight timelines.
  • Proficient in MS O365 and experience with Client Relationship Management programs.
  • Sound relationship building skills and demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers and stakeholder groups.
