JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Senior Financial Accountant provides leadership in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements as well as the year-end audit process for Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The position identifies issues, recommends and implements modifications to financial controls, policies and procedures to safeguard assets, assures accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions and confirms compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and related regulatory requirements.

The Senior Financial Accountant examines, analyzes and interprets complex financial data and makes recommendations for improvement to enhance the integrity and dependability of the trial balance and ultimately the information used in the financial statements and various financial reports. The position acts as a knowledge resource for revenue, expenditures and other accounting related matters to provide the insight and visibility necessary to affect change and business improvement. The position interacts with various stakeholders, internal and external, concerning complex issues that require professional expertise.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum of a professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • This position requires thorough understanding and knowledge in the following areas:
    • Accounting, financial reporting and auditing requirements including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards
    • Internal control principles and concepts
    • Auditing principles, procedures and working paper requirements
