We are currently seeking a Finance Manager to join our team at our headquarters office in Nelson.

 

The Opportunity

The Finance Manager reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for providing a high level of leadership around KCDS’ financial systems and process development. The Finance Manager provides financial leadership and develops and maintains operational excellence across all accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES including but not limited to:

Financial

  • Oversee all accounting activities and functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end and year-end closing entries, accruals, allocations, account reconciliations, and financial statement generation
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting as required
  • Support the Director of Finance in achieving budget objectives by monitoring expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Provide financial information to the supervisor and program coordinators during contract negotiations
  • Ensure the preparation and coordination of all audit materials as per auditor requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and oversight of leases and insurance
  • Lead, support, and supervise accounting staff
  • Serve as administrator of the accounting system maintaining system structure, access, and customized reporting

Organisational

  • Lead the finance department overseeing accounting staff
  • Strengthen relationships with funders, auditors, and other external parties through the provision of required financial information

Qualifications Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills; ability to gather and analyze data and reach logical conclusions
  • Management skills; skilled at managing complex financial processes across multiple contracts and contractors 
  • Extensive experience with financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, month-end/year-end closing procedures, and a full range of transactional financial operating procedures and management guidelines
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and terminology of general accounting, basic cost and project accounting, internal controls, and audit methods and procedures
  • Excellent communications skills; able to explain and justify complex financial transactions  
  • Detail oriented; able to prepare, analyze and present financial statements and management reports
  • Organisational skills; ability to predict, plan, oversee and complete a variety of tasks associated with complex contract management and financial processes in a timely and thorough manner 
  • Teamwork; Demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships, work in a team environment and build rapport and trust 
  • Ability to learn and understand financial structure of all KCDS contracts and agreements   

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, economics or business administration  
  • CPA designation a plus, but not required
  • Minimum 3 years experience in non-profit accounting, ideally in a finance manager role or transferable experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in financial oversight of human services programs and/or government contracts or transferable experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff or transferable experience

Additional requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must consent to a Criminal Record Check as required 
  • Class 5 Driver’s License 
  • Must be prepared to sometimes work outside the regular hours as required by the position
