Internal Audit Specialist

The Opportunity:

As an Internal Audit Specialist you can help make a real difference by contributing to the Company’s ongoing efforts to improve processes and procedures. You will be involved in performing risk-based audits of various corporate, international, and operational functions across Canadian Natural’s business, including: Oil Sands Mining; Conventional; Thermal; and Offshore in the North Sea and Africa.

You will be a key member of a professional team that is responsible for exercising strong analytical skills and judgment to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls, while working together with senior leaders and management to help provide assurance that risks are appropriately managed and mitigated. The knowledge and experience you acquire during your time on the Internal Audit and Controls team will help to better position and enable you to contribute in other roles as your career at Canadian Natural progresses.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop your understanding of various business functions, including how they are affected by statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the annual audit planning and risk assessment process along with  planning the scope and approach for various audits
  • Perform detailed analyses of the processes assigned to you to audit to understand the business objectives and risks
  • Work with senior operations and accounting personnel to plan and coordinate work efforts
  • Plan and perform detailed process walk-throughs and developing testing procedures and documenting your work
  • Support the advisory services provided to the business related to internal controls and process efficiency and effectiveness

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5x2 – Monday to Friday, 8 hours/day

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Engineering, Information Systems Management, Business or a related discipline, a Professional Auditing (CIA), Accounting (CPA), or a Professional Engineering designation (PEng)
  • Willingness to pursue Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) / Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) designation
  • Up to 5 years of experience in internal/external audit, accounting, or related discipline
