Your Opportunity

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our dynamic Financial Accounting team!
Reporting to the Senior Manager, US, and Eastern Canada Reporting, as the Finance Manager you are accountable for reporting on the performance of Capital Power’s operated facilities, partnerships and joint ventures which includes ensuring accurate and timely financial information and working with both external and internal stakeholders.
You will contribute to our team by

Executing complex and diverse work in conjunction with power contracts, partnership, and joint venture agreements.

Overseeing all financial aspects associated with the assigned facilities and trading activities, including the preparation of monthly results, counterparty settlements and invoicing, external partner reporting and cash forecasting.

Reviewing financial information, monthly reporting and invoicing prior to distribution ensuring accuracy and timeliness of the information.

Providing input and support to the Forecasting and Analytics function to aid in strategic and business decisions.

Managing all financial processes and timelines to ensure both internal and contractual requirements are met.

Mitigating risk by implementing, maintaining, and reviewing processes to ensure compliance with policies and agreements. Ensuring appropriate controls are in place and working effectively to mitigate any risks.

Maintaining strong collaborative relationships with various internal and external groups to ensure any issues are resolved and to maintain strong understanding of facilities within the portfolio.

Providing financial expertise to both internal & external stakeholders on any issues that arise.

Working with facility managers and Commercial groups, among others on a variety of operational matters that arise.

Recommending financial system and process improvements.

Participating on any special projects that arise, including potential acquisitions or divestitures and facility integrations.

Providing coaching and guidance to the Financial Analyst, US and Eastern Canada Reporting ensuring team accountabilities are met in a timely and accurate manner.

Communicating job expectations, completes performance reviews/discussion and provides constructive feedback.

Providing input into the recruitment process as needed.

Acting as a role model in demonstrating Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) orientation and help forge a diverse and inclusive environment in the US and Eastern Canada Reporting team and beyond.
What you will bring to the role
Education:
-
Post-Secondary Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting or related field.
-
Canadian CPA accounting designation.
-
Education equivalency may be considered.
Experience:
-
5+ years progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
Technical Skills:
-
Requires strong problem solving and analytical skills, ability to work effectively with non-financial individuals, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, strong time management skills, ability to foster positive internal and external stakeholder relationships and strong leadership skills.

Experience in the utilities industry, or with an entity engaged in trading activities is considered an asset.

Proficiency with MS Office suite of applications.

Working knowledge of Oracle, Allegro/Horizon or similar accounting or trading software and experience in the electrical generation industry are considered assets.

Data-driven decision making would be considered an asset.
Working Conditions:

Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
Additional Details
Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
