Tax Analyst (Hybrid)

Under the guidance of the Manager, Tax, key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of Canadian and US partnership and corporate tax returns
  • Liaising with and assisting an external accounting firm to complete and file certain Canadian and US partnership and corporate tax returns, both domestic and non-resident
  • Preparation of Canadian and US quarterly and annual tax provision
  • Preparation of monthly sales tax filings, such as GST/HST, QST, and sales and use tax
  • Timely responses to support questions from internal team members across various functions
  • Liaising with taxation regulatory bodies to initiate and maintain accurate records such as business numbers, sales tax numbers and filings, corporate directors and officers, authorized representatives and return filing status
  • Maintaining various tax account balances such as adjusted cost basis, paid up capital, capital accounts, tax basis, undepreciated capital cost, and capital & non-capital losses
  • Research and analysis of existing and emerging tax law in various area such as corporate tax, Canadian and US sales tax, corporate residency, tax credits and transfer pricing
  • Preparation of tax modeling for current and potential renewable energy projects, as well as the corporate group
  • Aid with updates and improvements to the automation of the tax function
  • Other duties and tasks to support the tax or accounting functions as required

Education

  • Post-secondary degree in business, with a concentration in accounting is preferred
  • Certified Professional Accountant designation or equivalent, or plans to pursue the Certified Professional Accountant designation is preferred

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in a junior or intermediate tax role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including experience creating and using complex workbooks with advanced features
  • Experience in the following areas is considered an asset, but not required:
    • US income tax
    • All indirect taxes, specifically sales tax in both Canada and the US
    • Tax return preparation software: iFirm and/or PFX
